Energy from Waste
Energy from Waste power technology is similar to the conversion of renewable biomass fuels into heat and electricity, except it applies to the thermal processing of municipal solid waste.

The primary approach for generating electricity from local authority refuse is combustion direct-firing. The fuel then heats a boiler to produce high-pressure steam. This steam is introduced into a steam turbine, where it flows over a series of turbine blades, causing the turbine to rotate.
The turbine is, in turn, connected to an electric generator, which the steam flows over, and turns the turbine. The electric generator then rotates to produce electricity. The burnt waste produced by the initial firing process then falls through a grate at the bottom of the furnace, and is separated into other reusable materials such as metals or aggregate used in tarmac.
