Anaerobic digestion plant is a bioenergy facility and is different from coal, oil or gas-fueled plants. At a bioenergy facility, the organic matter such as left-over food, grass-cuttings etc. are digested or broken down by bacteria generating gas and fertiliser as a by-product.
