Anaerobic digestion plant is a bioenergy facility and is different from coal, oil or gas-fueled plants. At a bioenergy facility, the organic matter such as left-over food, grass-cuttings etc. are digested or broken down by bacteria generating gas and fertiliser as a by-product. This gas is then either injected directly into the grid or used to produce electricity via a CHP engine. Watch how bioenergy is created in the video below created by Biogen UK. Iona’s first fund had provided financing to two Biogen’s projects.
